Description

Drawing upon a lifetime of aquatic experience, marine biologist Bob Fenner demystifies the process of planning, setting up, stocking, and managing a beautiful, thriving slice of the tropical ocean. A leading advocate for the responsible collection and care of wild-caught specimens, Fenner starts with the basics and proceeds to give the reader the scientific background and expert-level secrets to being a smarter consumer, better reef steward, and more successful marine aquarium keeper.

Customer reviews for 'The Conscientious Marine Aquarist: A Commonsense Handbook for Successful Saltwater Hobbyists'

A good reference but not a how-to.

I enjoyed this book and it is beautifully put together. However, it lacked a lot of detail when it came down to building the system. Yes - there were a lot of detailed diagrams but that was for one rudimentary system and for the plumbing only. It didn't really discuss alot when it came to chioces of fish communities, light systems, setups, etc. What it does do it offer a lot of information but you will have to do quite a bit more research to make an informed choice. I highly suggest getting Palletta's "New Marine Aquarium" book first, this one second.

This book is a must have for all marine aquarists. Whether you are just beginning, in the stages of upgrading, or an advanced aquarist. The author has something for everyone. From the basics of selecting a tank to the advanced selection of lighting and filtration, it is all there. One of the BEST books I've bought!

I have spent many hours reading about the marine aquarium, I've just had one for about 3 years now. If I'd of had this book when I started I may not have lost some fish during that first year. I bought the new updated version and I must say I haven't really seen much difference in this volume then the first one I have spent many hours reading. I will probably set this one aside and keep it, my old one was in paperback version and you can tell it's been read a lot!
