Description

Whenever flowing water and soil meet, the geotechnical or hydraulic engineer is confronted with filtration problems, which may be in coastal engineering, dam and dike construction, waterway engineering, road and railway works, tunnelling, well borings and many other fields. Either there are filtration problems in the soil like piping or suffusion to be solved, or filters of granular or geotextile fabric to be designed, or drains to be successfully installed. The conference "Geo-filters 92" was arranged to provide an opportunity for exchanging the knowledge on filtering. It was the first conference dedicated to filters only, and so these proceedings should represent the state-of-the-art. Research results and practical experience from many countries in both the fields of granular and geotextile filters have been compiled in this volume. It contains guidelines and proposals and references for further details.
