Awesome EXCEPT for the problem solvers & larger (heavier) kids!!
Don't get me wrong... It's very convenient, pretty sturdy and effective gate. HOWEVER, my daughter (at 2years and 32lbs) is the ultimate problem solver and watched me go thru the gate several times the day we installed it and figured out IF she put her feet one top the other, held onto the top and hopped/jumped onthe pedal for a few moments, she could unlatch it... she may be an extreme example, but the gates that required an adult to pinch & slide or press & lift worked better for her... they required fine motor coordination than these little tikes have yet... this gate really just requires determination and energy!

Great gate for dogs too
We got a few of these gates to keep our dogs from going in certain rooms of the house, and they are terrific. With the knee plate you can have your hands full and just tap the gate open with your knee. The gate can be put up without drilling holes in the door frame...it just works via pressure. I got one, liked it so much we got two more.

I own three and love them all
I own three, yes three, of these gates, to reign in my gloriously active, insane 15 month old. He rattles them, teethes on them, and slams them closed (when I forget and leave them open) -- and not one move out place, scratch, or dent on my wall. They are all in high traffic areas, too. They open and close shut very easily and install in minutes. I was very lucky -- my first attempt at buying a gate and I found a great one on the first shot. Highly, highly recommended.
