very satisfied
I've had this filter and the kitchen counter-top unit for nearly two months. Here's a few thoughts on the shower filter.
The shower head is pretty great. I use the setting between massage and full spray. It uses ALL the jets and the water falls on you instead of spraying. Yet, there seems to be plenty of water. Kind of like a waterfall, which seems fitting.
The water itself has no bad odor. It simply smells like a fresh, cool, spring rain. None of the chlorine, or chemical odors that usually fill a bathroom. I notice that I don't cough in the shower like I used to. My skin is less dry out of the shower. My shampoo seems to lather better and rinses out faster and better. My hair is a little fuller, probably from less buildup-- both minerals and shampoo residue. My scalp and skin are less itchy.
I have not had any cracks, but I have only had it 2 months. The connection to the shower pipe has a drip.. drip.. drip.. leak. But I'm actually impressed. The pipe does not have a "flat" pipe end. I don't blame the shower filter for this. The shower head did have a small leak but has stopped.
I have no idea if it really "filters" all the stuff they say it does. Also the company uses questionable sales tactics on the internet. That "filter comparisons" website that pops up on EVERY "water filter" web search, is ran by the guy who owns the company. Kinda sleazy, I'm dropping a star for that.
Otherwise, it works good and I plan to keep using it.

Doesn't leak. Water sweet.
I was wary of buying this thing due to other reviews that talked about the leaking. But it also sounded like one of the better filters so I gave it a shot. Maybe I got lucky, but mine doesn't leak. I thought it would leak where my pipe met the unit, especially since the rubber washer down inside the socket I was screwing onto the pipe looked a bit askew. But I followed the directions - hand tightening as much as I could and then giving it an additional quarter turn with pliers. It did fine. No leaks. Then I expected it to leak where the showerhead met the unit. And it acutally did at first. But as another reivewer suggested it, I adjusted it with a wrench as the water was running, so I could see what led to more leaking and what led to less. Now its fine. The real test will be to see if the thing lasts or if the housing ultimately cracks in time as some other reviewers have said.
The directions say you may want to use a bucket to catch the black carbon water that comes out when you first run water through it. I didn't have a bucket and figured it would just rinse away and it did. It's alarming when it first comes out - and definitely do turn it on low-strength at first, because it does come out hard and shoot everywhere. Just close the shower curtain before you run the water. Also it's probably best to leave the showerhead off until you've run all the black water through. Maybe it wouldn't matter but maybe that carbon dust would gunk up the showerhead. Who knows.
I was surprised at the water pressure. I had expected it to be a bit weak, but it's really not. It's perfectly respectable. It may be very slightly less than before I installed the filter, but not by much.
I'm just happy my shower won't get those whitish hard water stains anymore that look like soap scum all over everything, but I was also very pleased with the improvement in the water taste and smell. Where I am, the water tastes like swamp moss and paper mill, totally gross, and right away I noticed that my shower water tasted much better, almost ever so slightly sweet. I don't do a whole lot of drinking of shower water, but maybe I ought to start. Beats the sink stuff. It remains to be seen whether it does anything for my skin and hair, but I suppose my hair may feel slightly softer here on day 3.
I recommend the product and just encourage you to follow the directions re installation to avoid leaks.

I wish I could take this when I travel!
I love my aquasana! I noticed a big difference in my hair after the first shower. I seem to have less headaches since I bought it. My only complaint is mine hasn't quite lasted 6 months (probably 5). BUT the 6 months is for 2 people taking 1 10 minute shower each daily. Sometimes my showers last a bit more so their estimate is pretty accurate. My advice- get an aquasana and get order the replacement filter after 4 or 5 months just so you have it when you need it.
