Not a good filter
My wife and I bought an Aquasana water filtering system a few months ago and I must say that it has not been a good experience. In fact since then I have decided to avoid anything from Aquasana. The device is not well made. Changing the filters is very difficult because the plastic nut that must be loosened and tightened is hard to grasp and tends to strip. After two filter changes our unit is useless because of this cheaply made soft plastic nut. Within a few weeks the unit leaks and the shut off valve stops working automatically. It sticks in the open position and must be closed manually. Recently we purchased another system from Puritec and have been much happier with it and with the service that the company provides.

filters well, but fragile it is
We've had this for almost 3 years now.
It seems to do pretty well at filtering out chlorine, judging by smell and how my skin/hair feel. It does make a difference in how both feel.
I'd love to see actual measurements of chlorine reduction over time.
There's two of us, we take a shower each almost everyday (a bit overkill in my mind, sorry mom) and the filter seems to last 3 to 4 months. But remember there's no quantitative analysis going on here.
The whole contraption, with the exception the connections, is plastic. Given the mechanical loads it undergoes it's not surprising that it breaks fairly easily. The housing has fractured on ours with no unusual force being encountered.
( Ahhh epoxy... Wasn't I trying to *reduce* my exposure to something or another? Oops. )
Taking apart a used filter reveals a simple case containing what I assume to be activated charcoal, exactly like you may buy for an aquarium filter with a little bit of paper or synthetic mesh I assume is for sediment. Only thing is that if you did buy this much charcoal from a pet store, it would cost about one tenth what a replacement filter cost.
All filters must reduce water flow to some degree. This filter does pretty well here, the reduction is minimal.
If you're looking to reduce the odor (at least) of chlorine and don't have kids, and don't mind the steep replacement filter costs, and promise not to ever overtighten anything, nor ever to drop, pull, or stare directly into its eyes then this is the filter for you!!
Not awful but not recommended.

Absolutely Amazing!
I moved to Atlanta about nine months ago with my husband who has eczema, and we both began to notice serious skin irritation from the water here. For me, it was a matter of some discomfort, as well as developing dandruff problems for the first time in my life, but my husband's skin was going crazy. Finally after six months of suffering through this, I decided to buy him a shower filtration system for Valentine's Day. I wasn't sure what to expect, and I was really just hoping for any little change for the better.
That said, I was BLOWN AWAY by the enormous positive change in the quality of the water using this filter. The first time I used it, I came out of the shower and my skin felt like I had just spent half a day at a spa. I had been getting a blotchy red rash on my chest and back after showering before using this filter (probably from all the chlorine and other junk in the water), but the rash has completely gone away since we started using this filter. My husband also experienced tremendous relief from his eczema problems. Taking a shower feels so healthy now. We've been using it for about a month and I can't imagine ever going back.
A few other reviewers mentioned problems with the weight or installation or the casing cracking on this filter. I didn't have any of these problems. Even with the old, shaky pipes in my house, this filter was incredibly easy to install. The entire process, including the carbon filter flush, took me about ten minutes. The only thing that surprised me was that the water initially comes out with quite a lot of pressure when doing the filter flush, so I had to quickly move the bucket I was using to catch the carbonated water farther down the tub than I had anticipated (obviously not a big deal).
This filter is one of the best purchases I've ever made; although I haven't tried other models, if you want something that definitely works, this is what you're looking for.
