Decent for the price, but check out the M840 and M850 also
This is a very good waffle iron for its price class. Fairly powerful and versatile. But it can't compare to it's much pricier and superior sibling, the M850. If you are a waffle fanatic and can afford it, I recommend the M850, it cooks hotter, makes bigger waffles, etc. In this price range I prefer this unit's heart style sibling, the M840 (yes I actually really own all three models - waffles are a passion of mine). The reason I like it better is that the grid holes are smaller which lends itself better to softer waffles, especially ones with chocolate chips, blueberries or other ingredients that taste better when baked within the dough as opposed to being fried against the waffle iron plating. Sometimes a doughier softer waffle is just fun too, and the M840 does that best because of it's smaller grid indents. Sometimes a crisper well done waffle hits the spot and the M850 does that best because of its higher wattage and larger fancier grid plates. The M840B doesn't crisp as much as the M850, yet will burn chocolate chips, blueberries, etc. more than the M840 because of the larger belgian grid pattern increasing the waffle iron plating exposure to the batter. So, although a good waffle iron, it represents a compromise. If you really like the larger belgian grid pattern to hold more syrup or toppings, and don't want to invest in a high priced unit like the M850, this is a good one. If you prefer traditional waffles, the M840 heart style is probably a better choice (it's essentially a normal waffle grid pattern with the squares squished into diamond shapes). If you want the power to make a truly crisp or ice cream cone textured waffle, then the M850 is the necessary choice. I've been using mine daily for quite a few months and had no problems. The brand seems to be well thought out and the build quality seems more than adequate. Whichever model you pick, enjoy! A good waffle for breakfast is a great way to get the day started right.

excellent waffle maker
This waffle maker is the bomb. I've had mine for almost a year now and am completely satisfied with it. It reaches operational heat in a couple of minutes and then cranks out the waffles. Once it has initially reached its operational temperature it quickly reheats (as in less than a minute) for the next waffle. This thing works so fast I wouldn't hesitate to cook waffles for a dozen people or more. The temperature controller works well and it is easy to adjust your waffle from any level of soft and chewy to brown and crispy, or a combination of the two. It is easy to clean as well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. The alarms and lights are still working well. I love it.

Defective out of the box!
We eat homemade waffles at least once a month. I bought this model as a Christmas gift based on the three somewhat positive reviews. Also we owned a few other products from Chef's Choice and are very satisfied. To our disappointment, it was defective out of the box. I am returning it and getting a new unit, same model. I will revisit this review when we get to use the new unit.
