Hemmorages battery life quicker than a hemophiliac using a porcupine loofah.
Okay folks - That title is a little harsh...so to be fair, I'm going to list Amazon's product details and offer my thoughts on each:
"Opens cans of all sizes" - Yes. Whether it's a small can of mushrooms or a big can of beans, this device latches on to the edge and works its way around with no trouble.
"Easily lift lid off after can is open" - Another yes. When the device stops, the magnet holds the lid in place and makes for a simple removal.
"Cuts from the side" - Yet another yes. Not much to add here.
"Safe with no sharp edges" - This isn't always true. One of the lids came off with jags when the batteries ran low.
"Lid won't fall into the can" - Another yes. Cutting from the side pretty much guarantees the lid won't fall in.
"Stores conveniently in a drawer." - Yes. Sleek design here, no problems with storage.
"Lid pops back on" - Well, I can't think of a reason why i would ever do this, but I suppose it can.
"Opens over 100 cans per set of batteries" - This claim is 100% FALSE. I was only able to open 11 cans of varying sizes before the batteries died.
I'll add in a couple extra points:
(1) The opener doesn't always stop when the can is totally open. I've had the lid get stuck under the blade more than once and it kept churning away.
(2) The biggest flaw is the "Reset" key - it's on the bottom of the device, right next to the blade. If the opener stops working before the lid is off, this key is COMPLETELY inaccessible.
The instruction manual gives the following instructions to remove the can if it gets jammed:
"To detach from can, push and hold the release button in the underside of the unit...if can is still jammed, PUSH AND HOLD the release button and AT THE SAME TIME, turn the Stall Release Screw counter-clockwise with a Phillips Head screwdriver to release."
Okay, I could do this (maybe...), but what about consumers who specifically bought this device because of carpal tunnel syndrome or arthritis??? Not a chance.
Here's the bottom line:
The opener does work, but since it sucks away battery life quicker than Dracula on crack, I can't give it higher than 3 stars.

Not worth the trouble
I could not get this thing to work, it got stuck on the can
and I could not remove it. A good old hand operated one is
better.

Quit without warning!
This worked fine and gave no inkling that the batteries needed to be changed until it quit while clamped onto a can. No matter how I tried I could not get it to release. So I had to toss the whole thing, can and all.
I was so frustrated! I would have changed the batteries had I known this would happen, but it worked fine and gave me no warning. Maybe a low battery light would help?
