Too loud!
I previously had the West Bend kettle sold here on Amazon, which I liked despite it not always turning off when boiling. It died and my inlaws bought this one for me, since they were staying with us and drink up to 15 cups of instant coffee per day! I don't like it a bit! My old one was taller, so its footprint was smaller on my counter. Also, this takes a long time to heat the water and sounds like a subway driving through my kitchen when it is heating. Though it works, I'm getting rid of it and getting a new one.

Great pot, durable and doesn't leak
I've had this pot for 8 years, though it was made by GE back then. It managed to survive 4 years in the college dorms, and about 8 moves. Being borrowed by my boyfriend (now husband) and dropped, the plastic water level view is cracked, but that was 4 years ago and it still doesn't leak. We use it 4-5 times per week. I've never noticed metal coming off of it, though the bottom inside is scorched and doesn't look very pretty.

A poorly built Kettle
After trying 6 GE kettles and ended up with leaking kettles, we've decided to invest in the Hamilton Beach Kettle, the style of kettle is great but I have dicovered pieces of metal in my cup...over a few months the Kettle starts to burn from the inside and the material started to peel off. I would not recommend this kettle at all.
