Description

Long-nosed filefish (Oxymonacanthus longirostris) are found in lagoons and on shallow coral reefs throughout the Indo-West Pacific. They use their long snout and tiny mouth to deftly feed on the soft polyps of Acropora coral. The long-nosed filefish is also sometimes known as the orangespot filefish and the harlequin filefish. This enchanting small fish is light blue with many bright orange spots, and has a black bar false eye on the tail fin. Long-nosed filefish are usually found in pairs and are shy in temperment. They often nest near the base of dead corals on a clump of soft algae. This is a pair of silver and enamel dangle earrings. Master artisans paint each article by hand using solutions containing colored granules of glass. Next, they fire the pieces in a kiln to produce an alluring richness of color. They measure approximately 2.1cm by 1.0cm.
