Description

Powder blue surgeonfish (Acanthurus leucosternon), which grow to be around nine inches long, are found in lagoons and on shallow coral reefs throughout the tropical western and central Pacific, Indian Ocean, eastern Africa, Andaman Sea, southwest Indonesia, and Christmas Island. Also known as powder blue tangs, powder blue surgeonfish reproduce by simply scattering their fertilized eggs in the ocean. Like all surgeonfish, powder blues have a knife-like blade (actually a specially adapted scale) near the base of their tale which they can use as a potent defensive weapon. This is a pair of silver and enamel dangle earrings. Master artisans paint each article by hand using solutions containing colored granules of glass. Next, they fire the pieces in a kiln to produce an alluring richness of color. They measure approximately 2.1cm by 1.4cm.
