Description
The striped goby (Stronogobiops xanthorhinica) lives in a sandy burrow which it excavates with it mouth. They can usually be seen hovering an inch or so above their burrow, and they are almost always seen living in close association, perhaps even symbiotically, with an alpheid shrimp. The striped goby probably benefits from the shrimp feeding upon, and thus cleaning parasites from its body; while the shrimp might benefit from eating meal scraps left by the goby. This close pairing of goby and shrimp accounts for the striped gobys other common name, the yellownose prawn-goby. This is a silver and enamel pin. Master artisans paint each article by hand using solutions containing colored granules of glass. Next, they fire the pieces in a kiln to produce an alluring richness of color. It measures approximately 5.5cm by 2.5cm.
