Description

The Pacific Blue Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus) is also referred to as the Palette Tang, Hepatus Tang, Regal Tang, or Blue Surgeonfish. Like most tangs and surgeonfish, it is very easy to recognize because of its distinctive oval body shape combined with bold black and yellow markings. Pacific Blue Tangs feed on both marine plants and zooplankton. They are found in small schools or singly on tropical reefs throughout the Indo-Pacific. Like all surgeonfish, the Pacific Blue Tang has a knife-like spine located just forward of the tail that it can employ as a potent defensive weapon. This is a pair of silver and enamel post earrings. Master artisans paint each article by hand using solutions containing colored granules of glass. Next, they fire the pieces in a kiln to produce an alluring richness of color. They measure approximately 1.5cm by 1.0cm.
